Art Project at HMP Haverigg

080 A Wing Murals

A Mural project led by artist Alison Critchlow working with a group of men at HMP Haverigg. The murals look at the cycles of nature and the idea that nothing is ever static. They focus on moments of transformation in the natural world and each painting encourages the viewer to take a closer look. They are intended to be uplifting and inspiring. Central to the project was noticing the beauty in everyday natural things, taking time to look closely, alongside learning about painting techniques and art history. The murals bring colour into an otherwise clinical environment. They are intended to create a breathing space for reflection and imagination.
